Ujjwala Raut's sister in Bollywood? - Latest Bollywood News Gossips

Mumbai, May 3 -- Sonali Raut is supermodel Ujjwala Raut's younger sibling, but she does not want to follow her sister's footsteps. Instead, she wants to make a career for herself in Bollywood. Sonali, who is the face of cosmetics giant, MAC in India, attracted a lot of attention for her bikini-clad avatar in the Kingfisher calendar recently.

Though she doesn't divulge much about her meetings with filmmakers, she is ecstatic about having started the process of entering Bollywood. "I haven't signed a film yet. But I have just finished an acting course at the Anupam Kher's institute. It was a fantastic experience. Acting is tougher than modeling," she laughs.

Being Ujjwala's younger sister, Sonali always had expectations to live up to, but she has never let that govern her choices. "I'm not trying to ape her career path. She chose modeling and is happy with it. I'm passionate about acting, so I'm concentrating on it," says the model-turned-actor.

Besides acting classes, Sonali has also spent time perfecting other aspects of her personality to ready herself for the film industry. "There're a lot of things to learn about acting. That's why I underwent diction coaching and speech development sessions," says Sonali, who was offered a few South Indian films after the launch of the Kingfisher calendar.

"I wasn't interested then because I wanted to prepare myself. People expect a lot from me in the modeling world, so I'm working hard for this profession. I'm willing to wait for a good film with a great script to come along, I'm in no hurry," says Sonali, who has no plans to leave India till she breaks into Bollywood.

Bipasha denies link-up with Josh! - Latest Bollywood News Gossips

Mumbai, May 3 -- After her break-up with long-time beau John Abraham, Bipasha Basu is now being linked to her Singularity co-star Josh Hartnett. But the actor is denying the alleged affair rumours, saying, "Link-up rumours don't bother me. At the end of the day, whatever two people have, it is for them to know. The world speculates, and let them do that."

Bipasha said while shooting for her forthcoming film, Players in Murmansk, Russia. "All these things are a part of our business. Josh and I understand that. This discussion of our relationship will happen forever. What is important is that the two people who are being spoken about should know what the truth is and what is not," says Bipasha.

Sallu recommends Sanju for 10 Ka Dum - Latest Bollywood News Gossips

Mumbai, May 3 -- Two years have passed since Salmans Khan's 10 Ka Dum 2 wrapped up. But there's still no clarity on when the next season of the game show will return. And while Salman, who made his small screen debut with the show, is likely to take up the fifth season of Bigg Boss on Colors as host, he's apparently recommended buddy Sanjay Dutt as anchor for 10 Ka Dum 3. According to reports, Salman had lost interest in hosting the show himself after Sony Entertainment gave the green signal to Kaun Banega Crorepati 4 instead of his show in September last year.

Producer Siddharth Basu from Big Synergy, that has been helming the show for two seasons, says that he'd love to do another version, and so would Salman, but the final decision lies with the channel. "Salman is a very generous star. He would like others to anchor the show, if he doesn't do it for some reason. But he would never want a show to be stuck because of him. He is really keen that either he or Sanjay (Dutt) host 10 Ka Dum 3, whenever it happens. He and Sanju are very close."

But would Sanjay, who has earlier appeared on the show as a guest, work as a host, since there's a marked difference between the personalities of both the actors? "10 Ka Dum is an entertaining show. It was more Salman's show than Bigg Boss can ever be. It was unbiased and a roaring hit. After 10 Ka Dum, people have started seeing Salman in a different light because he presented a side of himself that had never been seen before," says Basu, adding that even Sanjay would be a crackling host, interacting with the audience and celebrity guests in his inimitable style. "In fact, if all goes well, Sanjay should be teaming with us for his TV debut."

A division of Sony Pictures owns the format of 10 Ka Dum. The license for it is currently with the channel. The catch is that it's likely to expire by next year, after which if the channel releases the license, the show would be available to other Hindi GEC players. Ajay Bhalwankar, head of programming, Sony Entertainment, says, "There's a time for everything and right now, our energies are focused on X Factor. We've not decided on anything about 10 Ka Dum 3 yet, and until we freeze plans for the show's third season, it will be difficult to say who will host it."

Dilip Kumar to donate Rs.15 lakh for CINTAA Tower - Latest Bollywood News Gossips

Mumbai, May 2 -- Dilip Kumar is no more active in films, but ready to lend support for the welfare of the film industry people. The 88-year-old veteran has decided to donate Rs.15 lakh for the construction of one floor in the 16-storey building of Cine & Television Artistes' Association (CINTAA) here.

"There is a trust called the Cine Artiste's Welfare Trust that was set up by senior artists like Amjad Khan, Dilip Kumar, Mithun Chakraborty and Dara Singh, among others, in 1992. Dilip Kumar has given a donation of Rs.15 lakh under the building fund of that trust, which will be used for the construction of the building," Gajendra Chauhan, vice president of CINTAA.
"Apart from that we also have Rs.5 crore that we generated through Star Plus and the show 'Superstars Ka Jalwa' last year," he added.

The land for CINTAA's tower in Andheri West has been donated by the state government. The building, to come up adjacent to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital near Lokhandwala Complex, will have office on the ground floor, a medical floor, a preview theatre, rehearsal hall and a cafeteria.

"We have applied for all the necessary permissions and the foundation stone has also been laid. Now construction will start in another three-four months and I think in two-three years the building will be ready and operational," said Chauhan.

Link-up rumours part of our business: Bipasha Basu - Latest Bollywood News Gossips

Mumbai, May 2 -- After her break-up with long-time beau John Abraham, Bipasha Basu is now being linked to her "Singularity" co-star Josh Hartnett. But the dusky beauty is unperturbed and believes link-up rumours are a part of her profession.

"Link-up rumours don't bother me any more. At the end of the day, whatever two people have, it is for them to know. The world speculates and let them do that," Biphasha told IANS over phone from Murmansk, Russia.

"All these things are a part of our business and both Josh and I understand that. This discussion of link-ups will happen for ever. What is important is that the two people who are being spoken about should know what the truth is and what is not," added the actress who was recently seen in "Dum Maaro Dum".

Bipasha, now 32, started her career as a ramp model and then dazzled on the silver screen with her debut with "Ajnabee" in 2001. She also featured in hits like "Race", "No Entry", "Phir Hera Pheri", "Omkara" and "Dhoom 2".

After her break-up with John with whom she worked in "Jism", "Madhoshi", and "Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal", her growing friendship with Josh was talked about as a potential romance, but the actress maintains she only shares a working relationship with the American actor.

"It's been great working with Josh because he is immensely talented and he is always very kicked about the work he does. He is a very nice person to work with. We got along very well and we intent to keep in touch. I can easily say that because of this film ('Singularity') , I met an interesting person," she explained.

"Singularity", a period film, is being helmed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Roland Joffe. The film, which kicked off production in Queensland, later moved to India and was shot at places like Gwalior and Orchha in Madhya Pradesh.
After completing the shoot in Orchha, where the temperature was 40 degrees Celsius, Bipasha immediately flew down to Murmansk, where the temperature is -35 degrees Celsius, to shoot for Abbas-Mastan's "Players".

The film also stars Abhishek Bachchan, Bobby Deol, Sonam Kapoor, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Omi Vaidya and Sikander Kher.

Asked how she was coping with this sudden change of weather, the actress said: "Coming to this schedule is an experience. There is nothing much that you can do here because there is just snow... it's very barren, very few people, and communication is also tough since most people only speak Russian here. Hence a lot of sign language and broad smiles work."

"The team I'm working with now is very special. I get along with everyone on the set very well. So the excitement to work is there," she added.

So is she a winter lover or a summer fan?

"I'm a crazy person, my preferences change with every year. I love the sun because I love the pool and the beach. But winter is fine too, since I was born in January in Delhi, I take less to the cold," she answered.

James Bond in Mumbai! - Latest Bollywood and Hollywood News Gossips

If you happen to see James Bond zipping through the streets of Mumbai in his Aston Martin, don't be alarmed. You aren't sleep-walking, it is reality. The 23rd film of the Bond series may be shot in and around Mumbai.

A highly-placed source told Mid-Day that Bond 23, the newest film in the franchise, will be shot in and around Mumbai. "Director Sam Mendes recently made a hush-hush visit to the city along with production designer Terry Bamber in mid-April for the film's recce."

Buzz is that the movie will be shot in Mumbai and Goa during the monsoon season.

Give the huge Bond's following in India, the cast and crew of the film is reportedly quite nervous.

Daniel CraigHowever, this is not the first time that a Bond film is being shot in India. Octopussy (1983), the 13th film in the Bond series, was shot in Agra and Udaipur.

Raj Kapoor under-recognised filmmaker in North America : Toronto fest official - Latest Bollywood News Gossips

Mumbai, May 2 -- Legendary actor-filmmaker Raj Kapoor's films have been a feast of cinematic excellence and are extremely popular not only in India but in other parts of the world. Now the organisers of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) want North Americans to understand the work of the genius.

TIFF, in association with the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA), is organising a Raj Kapoor retrospective where a total of 15 of his iconic films will be screened including "Aag", "Awara", "Shree 420" and "Sangam".

"Many reasons drove us to request IIFA about the possibility of doing a Raj Kapoor retrospective. We have long believed at TIFF that Raj Kapoor is one of the most under- recognised filmmakers in North America. His contributions have been essential to Indian cinema and seeing his films is essential to understanding Indian cinema, particularly Hindi cinema," Noah Cowan, TIFF's artistic director, told IANS in an interview.

"So for us there is an enormous educational mandate. We really want people to see these films, not only the South Asian community here but everyone as a whole," he added.

Also, several pieces of memorabilia like costumes, cut-outs and props used during his films will be displayed.

"We believe that it will shed new lights for a lot of people on Indian cinema as a whole and the films themselves individually contain so many master works which haven't been fully respected yet by the international community. We want to ensure that Raj Kapoor's legacy is understood in North America," Cowan said.

The retrospective is slated to begin June 26, a day after the IIFA awards ceremony in Toronto, and many members of the Kapoor clan, including his sons Rishi Kapoor, Randhir Kapoor, Rajiv Kapoor, grandson Ranbir Kapoor and granddaughter Kareena Kapoor among others, are expected to attend the event.

The tribute will go on till early August.

"We are the curatorial lead on the programme. The selection of films and the shape of the programme has come from TIFF. We insisted very strongly that new 35mm prints were made of the key films. This will help in case other institutes globally want to access the films from us," said Cowan.

Raj Kapoor was one of his kind -- he was only 24 when he launched his own studio, R. K. Films, and became the youngest director of his time after directing "Aag" in 1948.

There was no looking back for the genius storyteller after that and he went on to climb the success ladder by producing, directing and acting in successful movies like "Barsaat" (1949), "Awaara" (1951), "Shree 420" (1955), "Chori Chori" (1956).

He also made "Satyam Shivam Sundaram" for his actor brother Shashi Kapoor. He launched his sons under his banner - in 1971, he introduced his eldest son Randhir with family drama "Kal Aaj Aur Kal" and two years later Rishi with teeange romance "Bobby", which turned out to be a rage.

In 1985, he made "Ram Teri Ganga Maili" for his youngest son Rajiv and three years after directing the controversial movie, he died at the age of 64.

Raj Kapoor's popularity tanscended borders and moviegoers were crazy about his films in the erstwhile Soviet Union . His films established him as the Charlie Chaplin of Indian cinema and he also had a huge fan following in Africa, the Middle East and Southeast Asia.

Cowan is also a great fan of the legendary actor-filmmaker.

"As the lead programmer of the event I saw all his films. I saw most of them long before now because I'm a fan of films and my mentor encouraged me to see Raj Kapoor films as a kind of instruction manual for understanding Hindi cinema. If you see films like 'Awara', '420', etc., you see an entirely different kind of cinema in the making which is mesmerising. It changed me for ever and made me a fan," he said.

Asked how popular Hindi cinema is in Toronto, Cowan said: "There isn't a lot of Bollywood in Toronto. But some of the bigger ones particularly that are profiled at the film festivals create curiosity and the non-South Asian community gets interested.

"But Hindi films are regularly released in some theatres there because of the large South Asian community in the country."

Support community radio, Aamir urges Bollywood stars - Latest Bollywood News Gossips

Mumbai, May 1 -- What is actor-filmmaker Aamir Khan now busy with? He is urging the people and Bollywood celebrities to support community radio Jago Mumbai 90.8 in Bandra and says he is happy to back the endeavour because it will help the residents in knowing each other and in getting closer.

"When they were starting the radio channel, I helped them with funds. I would like to give my time to the radio channel as well. There are other celebrities who also helped in getting the funds. And whenever they would require funds, we would love to contribute," Aamir, 46, told reporters Sunday.

He was celebrating the first anniversary of the only community radio station run by the residents of Sea Hill Building in Bandra, where he also lives.

Aamir feels there won't be a lack of celebrity support as many known names from Bollywood like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor, belong to the area.

"Bandra is such a place where the concentration of celebrity is the most. Me and Salman were born in Bandra and now Shah Rukh also stays here. Sanjay Dutt and Ranbir were also born here and so is Kareena.

"So the radio station shouldn't fall short of neither funds nor celebrities. I would say all of them should come and be part of the radio station. This is our radio station. We shouldn't come as celebrities, we should come as a Bandraites," added the actor who is known for his performances in films like "Sarfarosh", "Rang De Basanti" and "3 Idiots".

The radio station's first anniversary co-incided with Maharashtra Day.

"Happy Maharashtra Day to all Maharashtrians. I think the community radio like Jago Mumbai is something we should have more and more of. When I was approached with the idea of community radio, I was happy that someone is thinking of it and I was happy to support it," said Aamir, who recently produced small budgets hits like "Peepli Live" and "Dhobi Ghat".

He is confident that such endeavour can be a great platform for budding talent and can help grow a more close-knit society.

"Each area should have a community radio. India being such a big country, you will find talent in every corner of the country. But everyone can't make it to the national level. So such community radio can be a huge platform to start with.

"It also helps in knowing people of the community. I don't know everyone in this community, but can get to know through the radio station. Housewives would teach us new recipes, or seniors would tell us how Bandra was 50 years ago. When we listen to the radio or when people take initiative to contribute to the radio channel, the community becomes more close-knit. And that's how a healthy community is formed," said Aamir.

Jago Mumbai 90.8 radio station also has a presence in other areas of the city like Santacruz, Vile Parle, Lokhandwala, Irla, Khar and Juhu.

No Sheila and Munni for Mumbai cops! - Latest Bollywood News Gossips

Mumbai, May 2 -- So a circular has been sent out to our police staff saying they cannot use 'vulgar' ringtones like 'Munni badnaam hui...' and 'Sheila ki jawani...'. This took place after a surprise visit by our police chief.

When he started talking to two constables at a local station, their phones starting blaring out these 'item numbers'. So the circular was sent adding that they should act with dignity and failure to comply will see their phones being seized. Come on, it is not their fault if this is the best Bollywood has to offer. And what is with all this moral policing anyway?

Shor In The City: 'Preeti had the attitude to carry it off' - Latest Bollywood News Gossips

Mumbai, May 2 -- Preeti Desai has largely made headlines due to her alleged affair with Abhay Deol. Now, the Shor In The City girl is ready to make news for her own merits. It is said that Preeti had impr-essed the makers of the film so much that she beat more than 50 models who had auditioned for the role of Sharmila in the edgy thriller.

"We had auditioned many girls through talent agencies but couldn't find one that fit the part. Then, one evening, she walked in for the audition and we immediately knew it was her," says Krishna DK of the director duo, Raj and DK.

Ask Krishna if her alleged relationship with Abhay had influenced the final casting and he shoots back, "I don't know if they were having an affair that time."

For DK, Preeti's win at Miss Great Britain pageant in 2006 was a "big achievement for Indians." According to him, it was her happy-go-lucky personality, carefree nature and great looks that impressed them. "We knew Preeti had the attitude to carry it off. The question was how well could she act."

Preeti's route to Bollywood was made a little easy since the makers wanted to cast a model instead of an established actor. "Since Sharmila is a model in the film with a lot of spunk, Preeti was the perfect choice," says DK.

Ever since Shor In The City started doing the promotion rounds, news is that Preeti wanted makers to chop off intimate scenes with co-star Sendhil Ramamurthy. "Certain scenes made her think again because it's a Bollywood film. But there is nothing overtly sexual. During the editing, she was only curious about how it had turned out. That's it," DK says.

SRK: Sleep starved! - Latest Bollywood News Gossips

Mumbai, May 2 -- Wakey wakey my walnut cookies! What's up with you this Monday morning? I'm a li'l under the weather, thanks to the rising mercury. But before I can take it easy for the rest of the day, I must share with you the interesting nuggets from glamour gaon. So read on dahlings...

For starters, while the rest of the world is going on about their daily grind, Shah Rukh Khan would like to put his feet up and relax for a while. Kyun? Kyunki he has barely caught 20 winks over the last three-odd nights, I'm informed.

According to Sher Lock Holmes, he partied till the wee-hours with his team, Kolkata Knight Riders in Delhi the other night. And then, he had to dash to Mumbai as he had to be present at daughter Suhana's school for a meeting. As soon as he finished that, he had to rush to a suburban studio, to shoot a song for Roshan Abbas' film, which his Red Chillies Entertain-ment is also producing. My super sleuth tells me that after a long day's work, the actor-producer had to attend good friend Maheep Kapoor's birthday bash.

After another night of partying, SRK had to jet set to Kolkata, for yet another match on Saturday. Needless to say, after his team won the match in the night, the actor and team owner was joined by his friends like Sanjay Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Ritesh Sidhwani, Sunny Dewan and his Men In Purple for another party that went on till the wee hours of morning. And not to forget the post-production of his ambitious superhero fantasy flick, RA.One. My super sleuth reveals that the actor-producer is constantly checking on the progress because they're planning to unleash another promo later this month.

Besides, like the first trailer, this one will also be a rather extensive one with some dhaasu visual effects et al. Chalo, badhiya toh hai. But I must also maintain that neend bhi zaroori hai Khan saab!

Akshay feels homesick! - Latest Bollywood News Gossips

Mumbai, May 2 -- My dhobi is not done yet. Now he wants me to hear about Akshay Kumar. Seems the actor's feeling rather homesick having been away from the family for over a month now.

Reason: Akki flew off directly to South Africa for the next season of his television show, Khatron Ke Khiladi, after completing a marathon spell of Desi Boyzin London. But now that he's missing his family, the actor has got three days off this weekend.

So he'll rush to Mumbai this Friday and after spending the weekend with biwi Twinkle and Aarav puttar, dash back to South Africa for more stuntbaazi with aspiring khiladis.

Meanwhile, Tina was spotted at a bookstore in Juhu by Safedi Lal the other day. He tells me that she was checking out books and music while Aarav was checking out the toys and games. Hmmm.

Hrithik's time management! - Latest Bollywood News Gossips

Mumbai, May 2 -- Excuse moi a minute, while I answer this call. It's my jasoos from Juhu keen on telling me this tiddy-bitty on Hrithik Roshan. Seems the actor is shooting really long hours for the Agneepath remake. So?

So he's finding it tough to juggle the spare time. Kyun? Kyunki Duggu doesn't want to compromise on the quality time he spends with his sons, Hridaan and Hrehaan. At the same time, he's also very particular about his workout. Come what may, he doesn't step out of the gym until he's completed the stipulated three hours for his kasratbaazi. So to catch up on his daily quota of his sleep, I'm told the actor indulges in an afternoon nap during the lunch break.

Kewl! I wouldn't like the handsome hunk to have dark circles under his eyes from lack of sleep, I tell you.

Soha gets experimental! - Latest Bollywood News Gossips

Missing from the big screen since Tum Mile in 2009 and despite a forgetful outing, Life Goes On this year, actor Soha Ali Khan is undeterred. She is now returning to business with a slew of projects lined-up for release and this time she is testing new waters with her choices.

“I am experimenting. I’ve done my best in my forthcoming movies in every possible way and learnt a lot from them. All of these challenged me,” says the 32-year-old, who has her kitty full with flicks including Mumbai Cutting, Tera Kya Hoga Johnny, The Accident, Chemistry, Soundtrack and Deepa Mehta’s Winds of Change.

SohaTalking about her experiments, she says, “I play a deaf girl in Soundtrack, so it was very challenging. I spent some time with deaf and blind students and leant some sign language and speed impediment for the character. In Chemistry, it is the first time that I’m playing a character, who is completely mad and a loser. I’ve never done such a situational comedy,” she adds.

The actor has also been in the limelight for rumoured controversies surrounding her personal life but she is unperturbed. “It doesn’t bother me. It’s obvious people like to know what’s happening in your life. I have learnt to take it with a pinch of salt,” she says.
